Why Me?

In Job 1:1, the Bible talks about a man named Job and describes him as being perfect and upright. He was living up to all the requirements of God as far as he understood them. He exercised himself to always have a conscience void of offense toward God.

He was also a blessed man. In Job 1:3, the Bible tells us that Job had seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred
yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household. This made Job the richest man of the east.

One day, Satan came before the Lord and they talked.

God: What are you doing here?

Satan: Just roaming around on earth seeing who I can destroy.

God: Have you considered My servant Job? He is one of a kind. He tries to please Me and follows My commands to the best of his
ability. He flees evil when it comes to him.

Satan: What? Haven’t You protected him and everything that he has? You have blessed him for his hard work, and You’ve increased all he has in the land. If You were to take away everything Job has, he would curse You to Your face.

God: Everything he has is yours to do with it what you like, but do not touch him in any way.

So Satan left the presence of the Lord. Soon there was a messenger who came running to Job. The messenger said to Job, “Sir, the oxen were plowing the fields with all the donkeys beside them feeding. Then the Sabeans came and took them away, and killed all the servants with their swords.”

While he was still explaining to Job what happened, another messenger came and said, “Sir, the fire of God is fallen from heaven. It burned up all the sheep and the servants and consumed them.”

While he was explaining to Job what happened, another messenger came and said, “Sir, the Chaldeans made out three groups and killed all the camels and carried them away. They even killed the servants with their swords.”

While he was explaining to Job what happened, another messenger came and said, “Sir, your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in the oldest brother’s house. Out of nowhere a mighty wind came and destroyed the four corners of the house, and it caved in and killed them.”

Satan came back before God again, and this time God gave Job’s body into Satan’s hand, but told him not to kill him. So Satan struck Job’s body from his head down to the bottom of his feet with horrible sickness. Through this entire storm Job did not curse God.

When the storm was over and Job did not curse God, or turn his back against Him, God blessed him with twice as much as he had before: fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys. And he had seven sons and three daughters, and those daughters were the most beautiful in the land. None could compare to them.

Sometimes when we go through things, it may not be because we’ve done something wrong. Sometimes, it may be God seeing how faithful we truly are. We can claim to be some big Christian, but if we don’t live it, it’s nothing but empty words coming from our lips. But if we live what we claim to be, that is a testimony nobody can shake.

You might slip and fall every now and again, but that just means you’re human. Romans 3:23 reminds us, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Nobody is perfect. Everyone messes up. It might seem impossible to hold onto God through the storm when you don’t know what you’re going to do. Remember Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Have faith. Don’t give up. Hold on and God very well may give more than you had before. More faith. More anointing. More power. And more strength to overcome any temptation the devil throws at you or anything God allows you to go through.
