I’m a Pentecostal

29th November

The following is an adaption of a speech given by Hannah Loyd to her eighth grade class.

Why do you wear skirts all the time? Aren’t your legs cold? How long is your hair? I have been asked these questions—plus many more—countless times over the years. I’m sure many of you in this class have asked me at least one of these questions before, and for those of you who haven’t asked but may be secretly curious, I hope to provide you with some answers today.

As many of you may know, I am of the Pentecostal religious denomination. Although there may be just a few Pentecostals in this school and town, according to the United Pentecostal Church International website (UPCI.org), there are over three million United Pentecostal Church members like me worldwide and over 279 million Pentecostals in various denominations. … Read More »

NAYC13 Friday Night

9th August

This is it. This is the final night of an impactful and life-changing conference. We’ve stayed up late, we’ve #quizzered, we’ve hit up all the booths, and stocked up on our NAYC gear to wear for the next two years. The final service is here. On Wednesday, Bro. Shay Mann spoke more #NAYC13Truths than all the #NAYC13Rumors combined. We left knowing that we are the only ones who can answer for ourselves. On Thursday morning, our cell phones became silenced in comparison to the sound of God’s call. His call began to overpower the congregation when Bro. David McGovern imparted to us: “Above All…the Call.” And that call of God extended to an altar call of young people on Thursday night following the message of Bro. Tim Gaddy. But the 18,000+ didn’t just come running to one altar, they came … Read More »

NAYC13 Project 22:39

9th August

The students of the UPCI are ready to change the world! Well over 500 students and chaperones signed up to be a part of Project 22:39. Through giving and going in the downtown area and metro parks, they showed the spirit of Matthew 22:39 which challenges each of us to love our neighbor as ourself. Several community service projects were carried out and an instant impact was made in the city of Louisville, Kentucky.

Many students at NAYC were also showing love by donating to a canned food drive called ‘FEED the HUNGRY’ all throughout the week. This food drive will go to help Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville feed the hungry in the metro area. Last year Dare to Care helped over 192,000 different families in the Louisville community, and we are proud to partner with them to … Read More »

NAYC13 Friday Day Sessions

9th August

The NAYC Friday morning events are all together a force to be reckoned with. There is much to be said for fluidity that only the anointing can bring.

The morning was started with a 9:30AM Jumpstart session filled with the most dedicated of souls. It’s a great way to start the morning, lots of upbeat music and crowd involvement, even a little bit of rap if you’re lucky. After the jolt, the energized young adults were sent off to their individually chosen spilt sessions.

Today there were four sessions to choose from, each of them offering a truth and relevancy to the attendees. Brandon Shanks spoke to the teens with the title “Boots on the Ground.” Nathaniel Rios spoke to the Youth Workers, Seth Simmons addressed the Hyphen Young Adults, and Jerald Staten wrapped things up with the Young Ministers.

“Three Altars”

Another day of North American Youth Congress has come and gone, and God is working in so many ways on so many lives. With the expectation going into each event, it would be almost impossible to sit by and not be changed just by being at NAYC13. You see, Youth Congress is more than a social event; it is a revolutionizing agent used by God to change the lives of this generation and those around them.

Tonight, in the North American Talent Search students showcased their abilities through the worship arts. Such activities included worshipful piano pieces, spoken word, and painting, just to name a few. The students offering their gifts back to the service of God is the norm here at Youth Congress, and it doesn’t only happen in the talent search. For instance, there were two confirmed … Read More »
