Spring Forward

As of a couple weeks ago, daylight savings time has once again come, and for some it brings joy with the longer days and later sunrises. For some of us, however, setting our clocks ahead one hour means less precious sleep. For adults, that is basically means we require more cups of coffee to function as normal humans.

Even with woes daylight savings time may bring, the promise of springtime is actually pretty wonderful. Years ago, I sat in on a meeting with a holocaust survivor. He was asked what his favorite season was, to which he replied, “Springtime, when all things are new.”

How true that statement is. Springtime brings an onslaught of pollen and other allergens, but more than that, it brings new blooms, new hope and new seasons. Winter is over, and there is fresh glory to behold.

Just like our clocks have sprung forward, so should we. We can spring forward to the new things God has prepared for us. The catch is, you have to leave some things behind. You have to let go of old thinking, habits, and methods. There is a new season prepared for you.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
