From Behind the Table

The NABQT— the North American Bible Quiz Tournament—is a time where the best Bible quiz teams in the nation meet to compete. This year, it was held in Saint Charles, Missouri, with the fancy title of “Relationship and Revelation,” covering the Book of John for intermediate quizzers and the Book of John, the epistles of John, and Revelation for experienced quizzers.

Many times, Bible quizzers think of the NABQT as a time to meet other Bible quizzers and make new friendships that will last rather than the competitive tournament their coaches know it is. As a Bible quizzer myself, I know the fellowship is often more entertaining than the quizzing itself. When one quizzer was asked about the first word they think of relating to nationals, the answer was “fun.” Fun, I think, is something many non-quizzers don’t realize happens … Read More »

A Celestial Viewpoint

13th January

It’s a typical Saturday in Florida. The beaches are packed, and the amusement parks are crowded. Tourists are on vacation, and Floridians hustle about their day running errands, enjoying the sunshine, and living their lives.

But in a little church in a Florida town, there is a gathering that has gotten the attention of Heaven. A group of young people has gathered from all across the state to fellowship and Bible quiz! Parents have taken time off work, coaches have driven vans loaded with kids, and quizzers have invested their time into learning Scripture. It’s fun, exciting, and it’s competitive.

As the first teams sit at the quiz table, a hush falls across the room, and a hush falls across the throne room of Heaven, too. The angels stand ready around the throne. Even the cherubim are silent on this morning. … Read More »

4th October

The book has been shut on the 2013 Bible quiz season. Another phenomenal year has passed, with thousands of students learning hundreds of precious Bible verses. The 2013 course of study was titled “Pselected Psalms” and provided a plethora of Word to draw comfort, encouragement, joy, praise, strength, and whatever else you might need. No matter your situation, the Book of Psalms can give you direction, and the 2013 Bible quizzers are fully prepared.
The 2013 season officially ended in August at the North American Bible Quiz Tournament—more affectionately known as NABQT, in Louisville, Kentucky. 101, fifty-five experienced and 46 intermediate, descended on the Galt House in anticipation of the year’s cultivating event. This was the first time more than one-hundred teams would be participating at NABQT in many years. The excitement in the air was … Read More »

An Odd Couple

6th July

We’ve all seen odd couples and wondered to ourselves, “How did they end up together?” This same thing happened to me this past semester when my Business Communications professor took an interest in my involvement with Bible quizzing. Business Communications and Bible quizzing: an unlikely couple, don’t you think? My professor was intrigued at the first mention of Bible quizzing in my introduction assignment and continued to ask throughout the semester how it was going. It was actually my professor’s idea for me to do my final project on Bible quizzing. Our final project was a formal report—basically a scary name for an extensive informative paper with strict parameters. What you’re about to read is the less extensive and hopefully less scary version. I call it my de-formalized report of Bible quizzing.

Bible quizzing is a program designed to put the … Read More »

Why Bible Quiz? Youth Leaders’ Perspectives

Posted by admin in Bible Quizzing. 1 Comment

22nd February

We were recently asked the question, “Why Bible Quiz?” As ministers to young people, in our opinion, Bible quizzing is of utmost importance because we know how difficult it can be to help build and strengthen a young person’s walk with God. Many young people are focusing their time and energy on worldly things. Right? Movies, video games, sports, drugs, and sex are among the activities they participate in, but none of these honor God. Even with the best teaching, it can be difficult to break down the walls of pride, selfishness, and arrogance that surround many young people. But where our words fall short, the word of the Lord is pure and sharper than any two edged sword.

Do you want to get closer to God? Then Bible quiz. Need a new hobby? You should Bible quiz. No, … Read More »
