2013 NABQT

4th October

The book has been shut on the 2013 Bible quiz season. Another phenomenal year has passed, with thousands of students learning hundreds of precious Bible verses. The 2013 course of study was titled “Pselected Psalms” and provided a plethora of Word to draw comfort, encouragement, joy, praise, strength, and whatever else you might need. No matter your situation, the Book of Psalms can give you direction, and the 2013 Bible quizzers are fully prepared.
The 2013 season officially ended in August at the North American Bible Quiz Tournament—more affectionately known as NABQT, in Louisville, Kentucky. 101, fifty-five experienced and 46 intermediate, descended on the Galt House in anticipation of the year’s cultivating event. This was the first time more than one-hundred teams would be participating at NABQT in many years. The excitement in the air was … Read More »

An Odd Couple

6th July

We’ve all seen odd couples and wondered to ourselves, “How did they end up together?” This same thing happened to me this past semester when my Business Communications professor took an interest in my involvement with Bible quizzing. Business Communications and Bible quizzing: an unlikely couple, don’t you think? My professor was intrigued at the first mention of Bible quizzing in my introduction assignment and continued to ask throughout the semester how it was going. It was actually my professor’s idea for me to do my final project on Bible quizzing. Our final project was a formal report—basically a scary name for an extensive informative paper with strict parameters. What you’re about to read is the less extensive and hopefully less scary version. I call it my de-formalized report of Bible quizzing.

Why Bible Quiz? Youth Leaders’ Perspectives

22nd February

We were recently asked the question, “Why Bible Quiz?” As ministers to young people, in our opinion, Bible quizzing is of utmost importance because we know how difficult it can be to help build and strengthen a young person’s walk with God. Many young people are focusing their time and energy on worldly things. Right? Movies, video games, sports, drugs, and sex are among the activities they participate in, but none of these honor God. Even with the best teaching, it can be difficult to break down the walls of pride, selfishness, and arrogance that surround many young people. But where our words fall short, the word of the Lord is pure and sharper than any two edged sword.

Do you want to get closer to God? Then Bible quiz. Need a new hobby? You should Bible quiz. No, … Read More »

The Real Reward

14th January

It’s your last year, Shaleh Dawn, your last year. Take a few chances. Gamble a little. I was talking to myself, trying to force my nervous limbs into quiet submission. But my arms and legs shook, and my mind raced.

The quiz was locked. I was the captain, sitting attentively in the number one spot, my eyes glued onto the quizmaster. He paused, looking intently at the six quizzers at the table. I think he knew there was no way our team could win, and he was sympathizing. When your quiz is locked, there is no way your team will win unless the other team makes a mistake, which is unlikely since they usually stop hitting the buzzer once they’ve locked a quiz. Our team had never won a locked game before, so it felt like our doom was sealed.

Personal Investments

12th October

At one of the last tournaments during our senior Bible quiz season, I was convicted. That conviction came over me suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, and it still has not left me.

The experienced division was finished quizzing for the day, and we were waiting on the intermediate division to finish before we could begin the awards ceremony. As quizmaster, I decided not to waste any precious time so I asked the experienced teams if they wanted to quiz all-star style. I mixed up the teams by pulling names at random, and the quizzers who were not picked served as coaches and judges. I began reading questions, and we were all having a wonderful time quizzing in this unpressured—thus unfamiliar—environment.

When each quiz was over, I drew more names, created fresh teams, appointed new coaches and judges, … Read More »
